So I suppose I should start with a little bit about me. I recently turned 27, became single and I am in the middle of losing 47 lbs that I gained 4 years ago with losing a job and a new relationship. Obviously I can eat as much as any man beside me.... but the real question should of been "Should I?"
With some of these major changes in my life I have decided to stay in Arizona to save up some money for a car and to move to somewhere close to dallas/fort worth, Texas but I guess I could really move to anywhere in the country I wanted. I have visited Texas quite a few times in the last year and every time I just fall in love with it more and more though. I mean the weather is a little more cooler than Arizona but it still has the green that I miss so much in Seattle.
I am starting to work on some of my goals in life. Not in that particular order but I would like to get at least the top 4 done in a year.
1.) finish losing this weight and have a body fat percentage around 17-20%
2.) run a half marathon.... see if I'm crazy enough to try a full after that .
3.) Live on my own again.
4.)Get a better job
5.)Go to Australia. dominantly to see Uluru, the Sydney Opera House, and the Great Barrier Reef.
To get started on the first two I have started following a "diet" called the four hour body by Timothy Ferriss. I have been on it for two weeks so far. It has a really basic and common sense approach to it. Its been pretty easy to follow through. His basic rules are:
1.) Avoid "White" Carbohydrates.
Unfortunately, that includes all bread, rice (including brown), cereal, potatoes, pasta, tortillas, and fried food with breading. but you get to eat lots of veggies, beans, and protein.... He gets more into the why in his book
2.) Eat the same foods over and over
I don't really follow this rule.. I like having different flavors and textures and would get very bored. Its more or less to make life easier.
3.) Don't drink your calories
This is a common sense thing also... but again another rule I break just for breakfast. You're suppose to get 30g of protein for breakfast within 30 mins of waking up. I have a really hard time eating that so I just have a hard boil egg(7g), a tbs of peanut butter(4g) and Eas low carb drink. it has 17g of protein.. then its water water water.
4.) Don't eat fruit.
This has all to do about the carbs, sugar, spiking insulin... again something to read the book about.
AND MY FAVORITE RULE!
5.)Take one day off per week.
I love this rule and it is my saving grace! Whenever I really want something during the week I just make a mental note of it and eat it on Saturday. The real reason for this is so you have a calorie spike and it works your thyroid ensuring that metabolic rate doesn't slow down so you continue to lose weight.
So thats what I am doing for nutrition
For Exercise...
I have also started my training running slowly increasing it every time I go for a run. The one thing about Arizona is that it hasn't really cooled down yet... not to a comfortable running temp. at 7pm at night. Luckily we are done with 100's though.
Yesterday I finally made the plunge, I am officially joined a gym. I know an important part of being in shape is lifting and working more of your muscles than just running. and Today is my first day of going. I am super excited and got two free meetings with a trainer so I get to meet him next week.
Alright, well this definitely ended up a lot longer than I was anticipating... Hope I didn't bore you to much.
